Today
**This post was transferred from the now defunct "The Long Ease" blog.**
So much going on today. Most exciting is that today is my first day working my newly negotiated schedule at my job. Since I started there, I'd been working 7-4:30 M-Th and then in the beginning, just in the mornings on Friday. But as we got busier, Fridays became til 3:30. The overtime was nice, but the reality that working 9-1/2+ hour days was not easy for me became more and more apparent after my most recent bladder procedure. By 2 or 3pm, I was ready to crawl under my desk and pass out. My belief is that it had a lot to do with the fact that in order to be signed in at work by 7am, I was needing to get up by 4:30 or 5am. Which, for someone who struggles as much with sleep as I do, SUCKS. And no, I don't have a long commute, but my "post-cancer healthy lifestyle" is pretty time-consuming. Every morning (when my bladder isn't being a jerk) I do a 20 minute work-out on my mini-trampoline. Which sounds very 80's Jazzercize and whatnot, but is actually very very good for you. It helps to circulate the lymph, which boosts immune system function and helps my angry guts. Showering is another 20 minutes or so. I have chosen to use my dilator while in the shower in case it causes me to bleed - then clean-up is far more convenient. Add in making a healthy lunch to take with me as well as a healthy breakfast... and I'm still usually eating that healthy breakfast in my car on the highway on the drive in. Scrambled eggs at 60mph!
So starting today, I'll be working 8-4:30 M-F. It's a small change, but I feel like that one hour will make a difference. I wake up far more naturally at 5:30-6am. And if I'm not so exhausted when I get home, I'm thinking maybe I will be able to make my lunches in the evenings and sleep til 6:30 even! It's a small victory, but one I am really hoping will help with how tired I feel.
My other big excitement today is my follow-up appointment with my Urology Oncology doc, Dr. Avallone. Since my second bladder procedure a few weeks ago, I have been doing a lot of reading and have a nice little list of questions for him that I am looking forward to getting answers for. Hopefully I'll have more to talk about later today, after the appointment!
Thanks for coming back to me (or for finding me).
Love love,
Phoebe
